About The Big Table Studio
Surrounded by impressive slabs of wood at their showroom in the heart of Palma’s Old Town, it’s easy to picture multitudes of friends and family gathering for meals and celebrations, and above all creating memories. Moving to the island is often fulfilling a dream, and part of that dream is invariably being surrounded by loved ones. A ‘big table’ is synonymous with coming together and represents part of that Mallorcan dream being realised.
The Big Table Studio sources a lot of their wood, like teak and suar from Indonesia, where suar grow up to 28 metres tall and two metres wide. This allows hefty tables to be made from a single piece, although, the table is always assembled and finished here in Mallorca. The studio has its own workshop in Consell, where their master carpenter carefully customises the product to the client’s specifications. “There is always a Mallorca connection,” Marc tells us, “Whether it’s entirely produced here in our workshop or ultimately treated and finished.”
“A ‘big table’ is synonymous with coming together”
Marc explains how sustainability is equally important, to him and his clients, only working with certified wood from responsibly managed forests. The whole concept of a big table is one of longevity and is diametrically opposed to ‘fast furniture’- cheap, trendy furniture produced with devastating environmental effects. Having had his own big table for nearly 3 decades, Marc knows the value of producing something unique and built-to-last. “A big table will be passed down from generation to generation. Investing in quality makes sense, for your family and for the environment.”
