Overlooking terraced mountains with a view to the sea, Son Font is one of the latest interior design projects by Rialto Living. The company is an iconic Palma lifestyle store and design studio led by husband-and-wife team Barbara Bergman and Klas Kall. Tasked with transforming a historic mountain dwelling into a family-friendly second home, the brief was to create a space that reflected the owners’ love of the island. Emphasising natural materials, high-quality craftsmanship, and thoughtful details – stone walls, wooden beams, bespoke textiles – the project blends Mallorca’s character with understated sophistication, creating a home that feels welcoming all year round.

Inspired by the island

“The owners love Mallorca, so we did our best to bring the character of the island into this project,” lead interior designer Jaume Gual Bennàssar tells us. “We introduced details and features such as stone walls and wooden beams, while choosing natural stone flooring and oak woodwork throughout the home.” The clients, a charming Swiss couple, discovered the property in the mountains in need of a major renovation. What was initially more relic than residence, they recognised for its potential. The breathtaking sea views, sloped terraces, and serene environment offered the perfect canvas for a family retreat.

Every material was chosen for its quality and dialogue with the natural surroundings. The purity of natural fabrics, the warmth of wood, and the character of stone combine with soft, thoughtfully curated colours to evoke an uplifting vision of contemporary rural living. “The kitchen was particularly important,” Gual continues, “as our clients love to cook and entertain.” With that in mind, the team designed a functional yet beautiful space that would serve as the heart of the home.

Craftsmanship and comfort

Rialto Living’s decades of experience and extensive artisan network were central to bringing Son Font to life. Local blacksmiths, carpenters, seamstresses, and installers all contributed bespoke elements, from custom textiles designed by Klas and inspired by the island to hand-crafted furniture and fittings. Large windows and strategically positioned openings allow light to fill every room, connecting interiors with terraces and the surrounding landscape.

The result is a home that balances timeless style with a strong sense of place. It’s a sanctuary where family and friends can gather while feeling intimately connected to Mallorca. Each corner reflects a careful fusion of natural materials, local craftsmanship, and contemporary warmth, tailored perfectly to the owners’ lifestyle and love of the island.
