MORE Design

In charming Valldemossa, with vistas of both sea and mountains, Moredesign has breathed new life into a historic Mallorcan home, creating a sanctuary of slow living. Founded by Manuel Villanueva and Oro del Negro, the studio with offices in Deià and Palma as well as Ibiza, is renowned for its organic fluidity and refined simplicity. It’s a style where no line feels imposed and every detail rests in harmony. Neutral tones, natural textures, and artisanal elements define interiors that embody true luxury: not excess, but the invitation to pause and embrace Mediterranean rhythm..

Challenges and vision

Renovating a 500-square-metre property in Valldemossa, a village within the UNESCO-listed Serra de Tramuntana, inevitably came with obstacles. Strict planning regulations protect not only the surrounding landscape but also the architectural character of the town itself. For Moredesign, the challenge was to navigate these restrictions while still carrying out a full renovation. Their goal was always clear: to preserve the essence of the house while adapting it to the flow of contemporary family life. As Villanueva reflects, the project sought to “reconquer the identity of a Mediterranean coastal home” – a philosophy that shaped every detail.

Spread across two floors, the house opens with a 70-square-metre patio before unfolding into generous living areas. The salon, dining room, and kitchen form one continuous, light-filled space, unified by a neutral palette and organic textures. Light streams in through a blend of traditional Mallorcan and iron-framed windows. Anchoring the living room is a striking architectural chimney, a Moredesign signature seamlessly woven into the home’s rhythm and hinting at year-round appeal. Upstairs, a circular lounge with built-in seating and uplifting sea views celebrates the landscape, while three bedrooms balance privacy with connection.

Craftmanship and detail

Throughout, craftsmanship and detail set the tone. Kitchens combine local stone counters with custom cabinetry, illuminated by Contain lamps and softened with textiles from Tapicería Tomás Riera. Bathrooms layer plaster, wood, and ceramics with fittings by Watermark and brass accents from Moredesign itself. Pedro Casanovas’ stools and benches, Adriana Meunié’s artwork, and floral arrangements by Neus Pastor enrich the interiors, while outdoors a poolside chill-out framed by Balearic branch fencing and built-in sofas embodies the studio’s organic approach. Together these elements create a dwelling which honours Mallorcan heritage while embracing the light and ease of contemporary island living.
