“Creativity, quality, love and nature are at the heart of everything we do” says Linden James, reflecting on the philosophy that has shaped his and Maximilian von Stillfried’s journey across continents. Their story is one of exploration, design, and a shared belief that furniture is more than just functional – it is an expression of identity, a lasting connection to the spaces we inhabit. The seeds of this vision were planted in Sri Lanka, where Linden, a designer with a passion for craftsmanship, founded Only&Co. and dedicated himself to working with local artisans, elevating traditional techniques and redefining what was possible in interiors. It was in this setting that Maximilian, a former CEO in the tech industry, seeking a more human approach to design, crossed paths with him. Through their shared appreciation for materials, sustainability, and the artistry of making, they became partners in growing Only&Co., a venture dedicated to creating exceptional handcrafted interiors, including furniture, lighting, and ceramics.
A philosophy of making
For Linden and Maximilian, the essence of design lies in its ability to create an emotional connection. Every piece they produce is the result of a deep respect for natural materials, meticulous attention to detail, and a belief that furniture should be both beautiful and enduring. “We’re not interested in mass production,” Linden explains. “Everything we make is designed to age with grace, and more importantly it has durable emotional value.” Finding ways to merge traditional local craftsmanship and materials with contemporary aesthetics, the process has been as much about relationships as about crafting extraordinary designs. They created not just furniture, but opportunities – celebrating the craftspeople as true artists and ensuring their talent receives the recognition it deserves. This ethos remains at the heart of their work in Mallorca. As they settle into the island’s evolving creative landscape, they are already forming connections with artists and makers, blending Mallorcan traditions with their own distinct approach.
A new chapter in Mallorca
Bringing Only&Co. to Mallorca was intuitive. The island’s architecture, its mix of old-world charm and modern ambition, its international community—all of it spoke to them. “Our philosophy grew from living and working on another paradise island, and much of what we value and enjoy in our work can also be found on this island too, so it was a natural fit,” says Maximilian. They see their work as more than just filling a space; it’s about transforming it. A dining table becomes central to the memories of a family. A chair holds the contours of its owner’s daily habits. “We all remember a dining table from our childhood,” Maximilian muses. “How it looked, how it felt, how it smelled. That connection to objects, to craftsmanship – that’s what we create.” With the opening of the Only&Co. Studio and Gallery, they are embracing this new chapter with the same passion that drove them to build something remarkable in Sri Lanka. They are not just bringing their furniture to Mallorca; they are bringing their philosophy – one that values craft over convenience, meaning over trends, and spaces that are truly alive.
