In the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, the sun shines in a remarkable way. It is precisely there, at its foothills, where the Grand Hotel Son Net stands as a testament to the history and contemporary luxury of Mallorca. Since its transformation in 1998, this 17th-century palace has been a magnet for celebrities and other travellers seeking tranquility, sophistication, and top-notch cuisine. After a meticulous renovation led by Cortesin Hotels and the acclaimed interior designer Lorenzo Castillo, which culminated in 2023, the establishment has reemerged with a renewed image while always staying true to the stately essence that the Net family imparted to it back in 1672.
Its surroundings invite fascination. The garden is an outstanding example of how the restoration of natural heritage and sustainable landscape design can coexist in harmony. Every element has been meticulously planned, successfully revitalising the original vegetation of the historic Palace while keeping the spirit of the Mallorcan estate intact. Entering through the Palm Tree Path, one is transported to a world of serenity, and beside the main pool, the rose gardens of the arches add a touch of romance. The project is a clear effort to maintain the authenticity of Mallorcan vegetation, ensuring that every plant and flower integrates harmoniously into the environment.
Original flavours
Grand Hotel Son Net is much more than a charming property. Its culinary offerings are a celebration of local and pure cuisine, with the contemporary touch that only a chef of Sergi Olmedo’s talent could create. Mar&Duix is the main restaurant. There, a refined experience is provided with live music every night and a wine list that exceeds 300 selections, including well-chosen local and international wines. Each dish combines seasonal ingredients with avant-garde techniques. You can enjoy a ‘frit mallorquí’ or ‘porc negre,’ but there will undoubtedly be flavours and nuances as original as they are delicious. Some of the gems on the menu are, without a doubt, the roasted beet tartare with green apple and sheep’s yogurt, and the white asparagus cream with scallops and almond praline.
El Gazebo restaurant is the smaller of the family. It offers a more intimate and informal atmosphere, ideal for enjoying rice dishes, meats like local wagyu burgers, or fresh vegetables from the garden. Typical recipes like ‘arroz al Senyoret’ capture the essence of local cuisine and Son Net’s commitment to the authenticity and purity of Mallorcan flavours.
Orchard & Vineyard
The heart of the experience at Grand Hotel Son Net beats in its orchard and vineyard, two fundamental pillars of its philosophy. It is there that the Mallorcan land speaks for itself. In the vineyards planted in 2006, the hotel produces its own white wine with the traditional grape of Banyalbufar – the Malvasia. This is how the nuances of the Mallorcan landscape are captured in every bottle. The Son Net ‘Selección Especial’ is the pride of the house and the result of meaningful work. The wine is served in the restaurants and can also be tasted during guided vineyard tours and wine tastings, allowing visitors to experience the production process firsthand and savour the essence of the place.
At Grand Hotel Son Net, each harvest is a celebration of the land. The organic orchard offers its best fruits and provides a variety of vegetables and aromatic herbs that elevate every dish served. This direct connection between the kitchen and the land ensures quality and a rootedness in local tradition, two of Son Net’s hallmarks.
