Ses Salines Home by GLW Architects & Designers

GLW and Winterhager’s home in Ses Salines

Architecture & Design by GLW

In the quietly evolving town of Ses Salines, a triangular plot posed a unique challenge for the creation of a family home. It became an opportunity for collaboration between two distinct yet harmonious creative forces: ginard luethje wolf architects & designers (GLW) and the cabinetmakers Winterhager, whose owners, Tina and Martin Winterhager, commissioned the home for themselves. Together, they transformed the awkward site into a calm, contemporary residence defined by its warmth, craftsmanship, and intelligent spatial solutions. A three-metre natural stone wall provided privacy and local grounding, while twin volumes created natural airflow and sunlight. “We built the staircase and the kitchen out of one oak trunk. I think it symbolises how special the interior is,” says Tina, highlighting the material care and customisation behind the design.

Design with depth and intention

This project represents the essence of what GLW do best. Based in Portopetro in the southeast, GLW is led by founders Sebastian Ginard, Nina Wolf, and Lars Luethje, who combine architectural discipline with a sensitivity to material, place, and emotion. Their work is quietly radical, eschewing showy gestures in favour of designs that resonate with the people who will live in them. Whether working with wood, terracotta, stone, or light itself, their architecture is richly contextual, shaped by Mallorca’s textures and the pace of island life. “We don’t want to be the protagonist of the street. We want to be part of it,” says Sebastian, expressing the studio’s considered approach.

Rather than racing toward completion, the studio prefers to guide each project with care, continuing conversations with clients and craftspeople until the final detail is resolved. It is an ethos that values relationships over rapidity, and ideas over trends. “The right client for us is someone who really wants something for themselves, not just something to sell later on,” notes Lars.

The result is architecture that lives lightly in its surroundings yet leaves a profound impact, a quality most certainly felt in the home of Tina and Martin Winterhager, where the boundaries between design, craft, and dwelling gently dissolve.
