One of the earliest companies to establish itself in Palma’s Can Valero industrial estate, Roselló Solar is a family business that has spent more than five decades working with the Mediterranean sun. What began with traditional shading systems has evolved into something far more nuanced: a way of understanding how light, heat and architecture interact in everyday life. “We create solar protection projects by studying each case individually, analysing the specific needs of every situation,” explains Marc Roselló. “We don’t offer catalogue products. We create a project for each client and for each home.”
Among their most notable works is the solar protection installed at Hotel Son Bunyola, Sir Richard Branson’s five-star heritage hotel in the Serra de Tramuntana, where solutions had to respect the architectural integrity of a protected historic site. At the other end of the scale, Roselló Solar has also engineered a highly complex retractable pergola for the 60-metre superyacht Slipstream, a project that demanded absolute precision in both design and execution.
Marc’s father, Jaume Roselló, the company’s CEO, expands on the challenges posed by the climate and the need for systems of the highest quality when exposed to year-round to sun, salt and heat. This insistence on durability is reflected in Roselló Solar’s choice of collaborators, including Renson, Markilux, Soliday, Novara, Somfy and more. Clients can view highly configurable systems, such as Renson’s Amani pergola, in the showroom. “Every pergola, every awning, every blind is designed specifically for a particular space,” Marc reassures us.
Sustainability is an integral part of their work, not as a slogan but as a practical outcome. “With solar protection systems, we can reduce air-conditioning consumption by up to 40%,” Jaume explains. This spring, Roselló Solar will showcase its expertise at Palma’s International Boat Show, demonstrating how outdoor spaces can be comfortably reclaimed from the sun.
