Kalypsó Kaplani’s 42_AMA: A Tribute to Mediterranean Minimalism
Kalypsó Design Studios’s standout project, 42_AMA, is a stunning example of contemporary Mediterranean architecture set in the heart of Palma. Behind this creative vision is Athens-born architect Kalypsó Kaplani, who now calls Mallorca home. Educated in Greece and London, Kaplani brings a unique blend of academic rigor and creative insight to her work, with a philosophy rooted in neuroarchitecture and the belief that “greatness lies in the discreet and often overlooked details.”
This 250 m² renovation of a classic two-story Mallorcan home, expanded with a 50 m² addition, exemplifies Kaplani’s architectural language. At its heart lies a newly constructed pool surrounded by a romantic garden atmosphere. The design combines rustic textures with minimalist elegance—honouring traditional materials like local mares stone, while integrating sustainable technologies and natural elements to promote well-being.
“I work with natural and sustainable materials inspired by the beauty of nature to create welcoming, healing spaces,” says Kaplani. Her approach ensures each space harmonizes form, function, and emotional comfort.
Dekton by Cosentino: Innovation Meets Nature
A key material used in 42_AMA is Dekton by Cosentino, a high-performance, carbon-neutral porcelain surface known for its beauty and resilience. In the kitchen, Dekton Sabbia was chosen for its ability to blend seamlessly with natural textures and tones, reinforcing the home’s earthy aesthetic.
Cosentino, a global leader in innovative architectural surfaces, played an essential role in materializing the vision for 42_AMA. Their products reflect a deep respect for nature while achieving exceptional durability, making them ideal for both interior and exterior applications.
With an eye on sustainability and future-forward design, 42_AMA is more than a home—it’s a living statement of how architecture can balance tradition, innovation, and wellness in perfect harmony.
