Sixties to contemporary luxury

“The total change is incredible,” says Carmen Sanchez, referring to the dramatic shift in the villa’s identity. Taking a non-conformist approach to the complete remodel and extension of the property in Santa Ponsa, she and Zaida Lopez gave Villa Lotus a singular distinction.

Leaving behind the trend for all-white that has dominated the Mediterranean design space since the millennium, the team embraced bold colours. An abundance of natural materials including stone, marble and a variety of wood is the canvas upon which they applied stylish brushstrokes.

Before painting the final palette, the building’s structure required complicated, extensive works. The left side of the property in Mallorca has been successfully extended, meeting all the challenges of substantial planning restrictions, low ground performance and instability of the existing structure.

Vision without limits

Now fully completed, what is most striking about the 559.80 square metre home are the breathtaking views of the Med visible from every room, and the extreme attention to detail. The main façade is a spectacularly warm, elegant combination of porcelain stoneware and wood, granting both longevity and easy maintenance. Natural stone cladding in the bathrooms, herringbone patterned wood in the bedrooms and the play of indirect lighting and phasing within false ceilings lend the interiors cosy livability.

What is a pivotal project in Sanchez and Lopez’s careers has made them “very proud… we have participated 100% from the design to the final phase with the interior design project and selection of furniture.

“Knowing how to listen to and understand our clients’ wishes is key. In the end it is a unique, personalised and meaningful design. At C&Z we love our work,” smiles Lopez.
