tables, lamps, vases, statues, pillars and much more. You would need hours to look at all the individual pieces.
The gallery resembles a treasure trove full of antiques and unique items, each with a story to tell. In 1975 Barceló Senior started to collect art alongside his main job as plumber. “He helped the artists living on the island and in return for his work was given works of art,” says his son Mateo who is today in charge of the business.
This formed the foundation for the two big stores in Santanyí. Mateo began working here when he was only 13 years-old. The father-son duo later shut down the plumbing business
to focus fully on the sale of decor, art and furniture.
However, the store is really only the “calling card”, so to speak, of the business as Mateo Barceló is a highly resourceful businessman and creative master craftsman who is able to fulfil all his client wishes with his skilled experience.
Whether custom-made furniture, mosaic tiles, wrought iron gates or the restoration of an old timer – the possibilities are endless.
“A customer recently wanted me to reproduce an old Mallorcan door for him but he only showed me the remains of the frame, the door no longer existed.” This isn’t a problem for Mateo as he has a team of pros at his side with whom he has been working since he was young. Galería Barceló is located on the mainroad coming from roundabout Cala D´Or heading toward centre.
Although the store’s location of Santanyí is not particularly central there are only few companies on Mallorca which are as international as the Galería Barceló.
Mateo speaks English, French and German and a third of his goods are exported – worldwide transport, too, is not a problem.
