The 'YouTube Pianist' plays at the Auditorium
On May 30th, Palma had the pleasure of hosting a concert by one of the World’s best pianists, Valentina Lisitsa. Valentina has gained the title of the “YouTube Pianist” as her videos have become a phenomenon online. They have been clicked more than 56 million times and every day she adds to her near 90,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel.
Far from being simply an internet sensation, this highly sought-after musician has been met with abounding praise across the globe. Born in 1973, the Ukrainian pianist has been playing the piano since the age of three and has since played in some spectacular venues such as Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York, and the Vienna Musikverein. Her London debut recital at the Royal Albert Hall in June 2012 was a sell-out.
Last month Valenina graced us with her presence in the Auditorium in Palma, which was also her debut in Spain. The piano recital consisted of three sections each based around a unique theme: “Passion,” “Love,” and an explosive final: “Fireworks”. The recital included 6 Preludes by Sergei Rachmaninov, Beethoven’s legendary Sonata Op 57 “Appassionata” and 8 Nocturnes by Frédéric Chopin as well as Franz Liszt’s “Rhapsodie Espagnole” and the “Totentanz” amongst others.
Valentina has just released the complete piano concertos by Rachmaninov on her exclusive label DECCA. She will also be continuing her tour throughout Europe, the USA and South America. Not only this but on June 8th Valentina will also be making her debut in Australia at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in Brisbane.
