Positive energy makes for good times. At Randemar, the distinctly vibrant atmosphere is the result of several fortuitous elements coming together all at once. First, of course, is the setting. The long-established Port Sóller restaurant occupies the first line of the sea, enjoying wonderfully pretty views of the iconic horseshoe bay, gentle breezes and fabulous sunsets.
Housed in a lovely old Mallorcan villa, Randemar has a seductive terrace and chill-out area, several chic interior rooms and a cool bar. Seated in an intimate corner or in a large group, diners and drinkers are bathed in flattering lighting and candle glow by night; skin caressed by warm Balearic sunlight during the day.
More than just a place to eat delicious Mediterranean food, the owners curate memorable times for their guests by staging live DJ music and delivering the kind of service that leaves you feeling at home. Glimpses of the iconic wooden 1912 seafront tram rattling past are a reminder that you’re in a special place.
Miami vibes
With her beautiful smile, Cristina Egurrola Oliver recalls the time she met her husband and first came to Sóller. From a local family of restauranteurs, 16 years earlier Toni Oliver had taken a Mallorcan house and converted into his own passion project, Randemar. When Cristina, who comes from Miami, arrived on the scene – later becoming Toni’s wife – she was enchanted with the island and its people.
“For me, being from Miami, it’s such a change having the mountains and the sea together, because it’s not something very common in the States,” she says.
The talented designer brought with her a whole new perspective and at today’s Randemar, American and Mallorcan customs and traditions coexist very successfully.
“The house is really spectacular, and with the terrace, the chill-out area at the side and the really hip bar, it gives you the feeling of being somewhere not really in Sóller, but… somewhere a bit more trendy,” explains Cristina.
Feel-good food
Describing the menu as “All kinds of fresh fish, meats, pastas; a pretty wide variety,” Cristina and her husband want to ensure a harmonious experience for clients.
“It’s really easy for the kids to come and have, say, a spaghetti bolognaise or a carbonara or pizza, while the parents enjoy a fillet with parmentier, for instance.”
Chef Aleix Viada pulls off this type of crowd-pleasing yet sophisticated cuisine with aplomb, focusing on seasonal Mediterranean dishes with global influences. The sun definitely shines favourably on this classic Sóller address, but it’s not all down to the charm of the port; the people involved and their attitude are just as crucial.
They genuinely want to extend anyone who visits – be they local or from many miles away – an invitation into the Randemar story and world.
“Our house is your house,” smiles Cristina, along with her spouse Toni and team, has played a pivotal role in shaping the much-loved restaurant’s young, dynamic flavour.
