This striking residence is one of the latest projects on Mallorca by the Ibizastyle architecture and design studio, and one that encapsulates not only their hallmark style but exemplifies the high standards of both functionality and technology. Ibiza Casa XXXVI is located near Es Pontas on a stunning stretch of coast in the Bay of Santanyí, set right on the seafront and – of course – with breathtaking sea views.
Like all of Klaus May’s designs, every conceivable effort is made to frame and highlight these vistas, with floor-to-ceiling wraparound window to capture as much sunlight as sea views.
A double-height lounge expands the pervading sense of lightness and space, while the staircase is glazed over the building’s entire height, generously illuminating interiors and connecting with the sky as well as the shimmering Mediterranean Sea. An infinity pool extends out from the main terrace and blends almost seamlessly into the blues beyond; feeding the pool is a waterfall, echoing the easy flow of the spaces throughout.
All three levels, which include a spacious roof terrace, are connected by a glass lift as well as a cleverly designed staircase that touches neither the walls or elevator. The upper terrace adds an outside kitchen and chill-out area, perfect for entertaining and with the finest views in the house. Like all Ibizastyle properties, this one features state-of-the-art smart home systems, plus with a basement spa with Jacuzzi and sauna rounding things off nicely.
While the design feels undeniably 21st-century, and imbued with the latest technologies for modern living, Ibizastyle Marketing Manager, Sacha May, chooses “timeless” to describe it. And there is something in the purity of form and functionality that lends a timelessness to this style, and certainly one with links that stretch back through time to Balearic architecture of old.
