Mallorca in December

Roasted chestnuts, winter sunshine and lots of cheer

Smell the roasted chestnuts and churros at a festive market; feel the winter sunshine and see the magic of Palma illuminated by night: Mallorca in December is a joy.

As Christmas approaches, the illuminations switch on and the island feels decidedly festive. Rather than shopping frenziedly, the locals enjoy traditional celebrations and family time.

Less rain than previous months makes for some wonderfully pleasant weather in December, so get out and hike or cycle to your heart’s content. The summer crowds have long gone, but the beaches, mountains and countryside are still here, and still beautiful.

One of the best things about Mallorca’s multiculturalism is the cultural mix of events happening on the island. In December, the atmosphere of German and Swedish markets come to Palma and Puerto Portals, and shoppers happily browse stalls laden with toys and gingerbread, perhaps enjoying a mulled wine or baked apple, full of Balearic Christmas spirit.
