Castillo Hotel Son Vida celebrates 50 years
The landmark hotel attracts celebs from around the globe
The official opening of the Castillo Hotel Son Vida in 1961 was described by the press as “the greatest and most extravagant party that Mallorca has ever seen”. Fifty years later, on June 23rd, some 200 guests from the economic, political and cultural worlds celebrated the Castillo Hotel Son Vida’s half-century at another glittering party on the superb terrace. Hotel proprietor Mrs Alexandra Schörghuber, Luigi di Rosa (general area manager, Starwood Hotels Mallorca) and John Veensma (hotel general manager) welcomed guests, who enjoyed a cocktail, superb three-course dinner and live music from the trio Isla San Juan, late into the night. In its 50-year history, the landmark hotel has been visited by some of the world’s most famous people, including royalty, political leaders, business moguls, sporting stars and Hollywood luminaries. Among the first visitors were Princess Grace and husband Prince Rainier of Monaco, who hosted a lavish society party there, attended by friends Aristoteles Onassis and Maria Callas.
