On September 29th the 3rd ARS NOVA Awards took place at the Casino, Sol de Mallorca with a packed house showing their support for the work of this worthy foundation dedicated to promoting and helping young Spanish fashion designers to establish a career in the very competitive world of apparel.
With eight finalists from all over Spain showing their inspirational collections – eight complete outfits – the standard was very high. With varying levels of creativity Jurena Mulñoz showed hand-paint fabrics creating a blaze of colour on the runway. Another very strong contender for the award was Giliem Perez whose collection certainly made the strongest statement on the night winning the Pasarela ARSNOVA Illes Balears prize and he can certainly look forward to a success career in the future.
The local girl Marta Morey was voted the number one choice by the audience who could vote via SMS for their favourite. The winner was Miquel Grau from Barcelona with a collection called ‘Chic Fetish’ and it stood out as the most wearable, highest quality in terms of fabrics and design and for its commercial potential and overall appeal.
Last year’s winner Pablo Erroz told us that the award had helped him to get his career started and the prize money meant that he could produce another collection this year which he showed recently at Valencia Fashion week.
The women with the passion and dedication behind this worthy cause is Tania Frau who approaching our editor Helen Cummins last March to ask if she would be one of the judges for the competition, which she was honoured to do. Tania and her supporters in the ARSNOVA foundation are another example of the fantastic work that is being done on the ground to help young people get started in their careers. Well done to all of you – we salute you.
